The 7th Quest - Asking Good Questions
Why is asking good questions important? Because some questions we won't answer. Questions such as "What should I do". Now pay attention! We are not here to live YOUR lives nor to make YOUR choices. We will not ever tell you what you SHOULD do. We will tell you what you are most likely to do, and how it will turn out. We might also say how it will turn out if you do not do what is most likely. Here's an example. You have to choose between 2 job offers. We would then describe the situation in each job regarding finances, office dynamics, personality of the boss/bosses, personality conflicts or lack thereof with colleagues, etc. You might really like the one that offers more money for obvious reasons, but maybe the boss is a rotten scoundrel and being happy would be impossible. Money. Happiness. The choice is your's. Sometimes both bosses are great, colleagues wonderful, salary excellent. We'll tell you which you're most likely to pick.
Here are some example good questions and not so good questions with explanations.
- Betty is a real sweet gal. Is she the right one for me? For us, this
question is difficult. Is there really only one right partner for any given
person? We feel that the answer to that is a matter of personal beliefs rather
than a truth. We will point that out and re-direct the question to describe
how the two of you can, will or won't get along, and why. Betty is sweet,
but do you Love her? etc.
- Why I am so upset and worried all the time? A good question just
like it is.
- Where should we go away on vacation? This is not a question we will
answer. We might, however, ask you what you like, and then describe the plusses
and minuses of your possible choices.
- Will our plane crash? Is it safe to fly? Both are good questions,
although the first is a psychic question, the second based on statistics.
Most people get on a plane with some degree of worry, as they can't even see,
let alone understand what the pilots are doing way up front there. So don't
worry about being worried. Both questions are valid, however. According to
the number of people who die in airplane crashes compared
to those who die in the hospital, or by a bullet trying to pass through them,
falling asleep at the wheel or drinking then driving into a tree, flying is very
safe. It is far safer than you driving yourself to the airport,or taking a taxi
there. Of course you are not in control of the plane, and that worries many.
We will gladly answer the question about whether YOUR plane will crash, or
more likely, deliver you safely to destination. Then you can choose to fly, or
not. We might also explore the reason for your fear, but only if you want us to.
- Why can't I make good decisions with my relationships with men.?
A perfectly asked question. Straightforward, and to the point.
- Frank is cheating on me. I love him even though he's not perfect. I've
been doing a lot to make our relationship work. Will he stop his cheating?
A tough question for people to hear the answer, because they're scared the
answer might be no. If the answer is yes, we wish you both pleasant lives
together. If the answer is no, then there will be choices to make. We will
tell you what you are likely to do, and sometimes why. We might add that Frank
would also do something to make the relationship work if you did this, or
that. And by the way, no one ain't perfect! We don't answer this kind of
question in a public forum.
Now don't go worrying about making a mistake. We'll catch it. Remember,
that's our job, which we like, by the way.
